CAWIC HISTORY

CAWIC, a not-for-profit Canadian organization was incorporated on October 13, 2005. Its membership includes women employed in construction and related fields in Canada. Our members are dedicated to the success of women in the construction industry.

CAWIC’s history began in 1982 as the Toronto Chapter of NAWIC the U.S. based National Association of Women in Construction. In October 2005, CAWIC separated from NAWIC to launch a Canadian independent association for its membership but continues to maintain its affiliation with NAWIC which operates from its head office in Texas.

CAWIC MISSION
To facilitate the success of women in the Canadian construction industry by uniting our voices, knowledge and resources through the passion of our members and the women we inspire.

CAWIC CORE OBJECTIVES

CAWIC LEADERSHIP
The Association is governed by a Board of Directors elected annually from the membership. The board of directors meets monthly to conduct association business.

CAWIC INTERNATIONAL AFFILIATIONS
CAWIC is affiliated with NAWIC in the US, Australia, the UK, South Africa, and New Zealand.

CAWIC PARTNERSHIPS
CAWIC has entered into a strategic partnership with BILD, (the GTA Building and Land Development Association) providing powerful opportunities for CAWIC members in furtherance of our mission.

CAWIC regularly seeks out and enters into mutually beneficial arrangements in order to better serve our members and to fulfill our core objectives such as with Habitat for Humanity Women Build, women's work wear, accommodations and other targeted benefits for our members.

CAWIC PROGRAMS
CAWIC hosts regular meetings that include industry specific presentations, workshops, career days and project site tours. We also plan educational seminars, fundraisers for bursaries, and are actively involved in supporting local communities, and work cooperatively with other organizations that support women in the construction industry.

CAWIC BURSARY
CAWIC awards bursaries to women who are enrolled in post-secondary construction related fields of study. CAWIC bursaries are awarded annually.

CAWIC MENTORSHIP
Our Mentorship Program provides support, information and acts as a guidance Program for young women who are interested in construction related careers and for prospective and new members of CAWIC.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
CAWIC offers opportunities for organizations to support our mission by participating in our sponsorship program.
